Birds do not see the world the way humans do. Most avian species detect ultraviolet light and perceive motion at higher rates than humans. We developed and tested specialized ultraviolet lights with blinking profiles mounted on aircraft and measured avian responses. Our research demonstrated that these lights enhance bird awareness, increasing the distance that birds begin to respond to an approaching aircraft, thereby helping them to avoid collisions without harming the birds.
